U.S. National Team defender Oguchi Onyewu successfully completed a “significant” transfer from his checking account into an IRA ahead of the April tax-filing deadline.
“You know, I always read about the advantages of saving money in an IRA and today I transferred a significant amount of money into one,” explained the Standard Liege center back. Sources close to the deal said Onyewu transferred the maximum amount allowed under Federal law.
Several commentators praised the transfer as a positive move in the young player’s career. CNNMoney columnist, Ebenezer Panbourn, expressed a common sentiment saying, “This is a great transfer. Maximizing your retirement savings options at a young age is something more players need to consider.”
